Submission FAQ

1. Is it okay for me to submit a paper I wrote for another University?

While we encourage students to submit essays from across the curriculum here at Southeastern, the essay you submit must have been written for a Southeastern course assignment and must be accompanied by the appropriate submission form. The forms can be downloaded and completed from the PDFs below or you can pick one up at the Writing Center in D. Vickers 210. Click to Submit Your work to The Pick!

2. What happens after I submit my essay?

Upon submission, you agree to have your essay edited through an anonymous, peer-review process. Your essay will be evaluated for: quality, content, organization, and originality. If your work is accepted, you may be required to meet with the editor or a member of the editorial board to discuss necessary revisions prior to publication. All essays that are accepted will be revised by the editor or a member of the editorial staff and returned to the student so that they can review the revisions. The author and editor approved draft of the essay will be the final version printed in the next edition of The Pick.

3. How many essays can I submit?

As many as you want! But keep these few rules in mind:

• You can't submit a work that has been previously published elsewhere

• Your essay must have been written in fulfillment of an assignment for a course at Southeastern

• You must complete a submission form and it must be submitted with your essay

4. Do I have to submit a hard copy and a digital one?

No, just a digital copy through this website. But you must submit a completed submission form with your essay or it will not be considered for publication.

5. My instructor/professor/teacher required us to use APA instead of MLA. Can my essay still be considered for publication?

Of course! Essays submitted can follow any of these citation styles:

• MLA (Modern Language Association)

• APA (American Psychological Association)

• Chicago Manual of Style

• Kate Turabian's A Manual for Writers

Remember, The Pick is looking for essays that are the best of the best across the curriculum at Southeastern so no matter which citation style you use, make sure you follow the guidelines as closely!

6. What if my paper includes non-academic sources like Wikipedia?

If you essay cites a source that is non-academic or the editor or editorial board deems your source unsuitable, you will be asked to find and use another source in your essay.

7. I've still got some questions. Who can I ask?

You can email the editor directly via thepick@selu.edu or stop by the Writing Center in D. Vickers 210. They are always happy to help!
